Ellen Fontana

The love of the land and the respect for nature are family inheritance. Coffee-grower Ellen Fontana learned to enjoy the country life from her grandfather, Lázaro de Souza Pinto, on the Fazenda Fronteira. As a child, she helped him carry coffee from the plantation to the drying yard. In order to help manage the agrobusiness, Ellen studied Zootechnics at USP (University of São Paulo) and took over the business upon the passing of her father and grandfather.

Ellen decided to implement new farming technics, to update the sustainable practices, which had always been traditional on the farm, and to enter the special coffee market after five generations of coffee growers. This was made possible with the help of her husband, Leandro Oliani Oragio, and her mother, Marisa de Souza Pinto. “Our coffee beans are a part of the dream and struggle of people who love and are proud of farming the land,” emphasizes Ellen.

The main goal is to preserve the land and water more and more. The farm, which is located 1,350 m high between the States of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, takes advantage of the mild climate, forests, and springs that have been preserved to produce special coffee beans.

After a succesful career and excellent results producing high quality products, coffee-grower Ellen Fontana steps up her business. In 2016, Fazenda Fronteira releases a new brand for its products: Ellen Fontana Special Coffee..

Modern, elegant, and feminine, the new brand is ready to win the world by showing a woman’s touch in a high quality product.

“We have a supportive family, a small, excellent working team, and partners and friends who guide us. Thus, we go on working hard to offer high quality coffee produced in a responsible way” - Ellen Fontana.

The Farm

The serious work of producing high quality coffee and respecting nature are still the same. Several types of coffee beans are farmed sustainably, focusing on the superior quality of the product.

Ellen Fontana Special Coffee comes to crown the work done under the leadership of women. We are the fifth generation of coffee growers and our beans are the product of the dream and struggle of people who proudly love to farm the land.

Since 2013, we have been producing micro lots to open new channels of commerce for special coffee and the results have been great. We are looking for new business partners to keep on growing.

Situated in the area of the Circuito das Águas Paulista (São Paulo Water Spa Circuit), Fazenda Fronteira is 1,350 meters high in the Serrote neighborhood in Socorro, São Paulo. It is a micro region with mild climate and preserved forests and springs.

We are looking forward to producing a unique beverage for different markets and being a reference in sustainable farming by preserving the soil and water, thus contributing for the balance in nature.

Misson

To produce high quality coffee beans with unique flavor in a sustainable and innovative way. We also intend to preserve the soil and water, apprase the balance of nature and people, and surprise our clients.

Vision

To combine top-quality production with sustainable farming in order to ensure a healthy future for our coffee, for our families, and for the environment.

Differential

Strict quality control of the production and privileged geographical location resulting in micro lots of coffee beans that introduce a special drinking experience.

Our coffee

“Balanced coffee, with a strong scent of chocolate and notes of dry fruits (light acidity) and sweetness noticiable all through the drinking process. It has a buttered body with a long, pleasant ending. It’s the kind of coffee to be flavored every day.”
Marcia Yoko Shimosaka

Our crops are sustainable: harvesting, drying, and storage are carefully made in order to preserve the most of the quality of our grains.

The farm is divided into particular blocks considering location, soil, and altitude. Each area is treated individually until the coffee beans become a unique and incredible drinking experience.

The final products of such careful operation are micro lots of coffee beans with special features, free from residues and defects.

Sustainable production

How is fazenda FONTANA contributing for the reduction of greenhouse gases emission?
Fazenda Fontana adopts sustainable production and tries to do its part to help preserve the natural resources of our planet with the following actions:

Organic composting
We reuse every production residue – coffee straw, falling leaves, dryer ashes, manure, banana leaves and stalk, sawdust – in the preparation of organic composting which is used in tillage, nourishing the coffee, enriching the soil, and above all decreasing the usage of chemicals that release greenhouse gases.

Ground cover preservation
Our management system keeps the ground constantly covered preventing its degradation and keeping its temperature, besides incorporating and absorbing more carbon dioxide.

Infiltration boxes
Several boxes have been built and are kept to store and hold rainwater. They fight erosion and help retain and infiltrate water into the ground.
